Le Chéile FRC End of Year Chronicles Dec 25

As the weather cools and winter truly settles in, there is a lovely sense of anticipation across Le Chéile Family Resource Centre. The darker evenings bring with them the glow of community spirit, and as we head towards Christmas and the end of another memorable year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on all we’ve achieved together.

We’ve had a fantastic year in Le Chéile, with plenty of highlights to celebrate.

Most noticeably, our building received a beautiful facelift, bringing fresh colour and life to the space we all share.

Our children’s woodwork sessions continued to spark creativity and confidence among our younger visitors.

In September, the North Cork Knitters made a generous and heartfelt presentation to Catriona Twomey of Penny Dinners, a moment that truly captured the warmth of local giving as the colder months approached.

We were delighted to host an Open Day for local parents, offering a welcoming space to see what’s available in Le Chéile and meet others in the community.

Our Community Health Worker was busy too, delivering an informative presentation to the Physiotherapy team in Mallow General Hospital.

Meanwhile, both the Men’s Shed and Women’s Shed enjoyed a wonderful outing to the HSE 50 Years Celebration at City Hall – a great occasion full of stories, music, and shared memories.

We also held an Information Morning for the North Cork Visually Impaired/Blind community in September, providing valuable resources and connections.

The Strollers Walking Group took full advantage of the autumn air with their stroll through the scenic Mallow Castle grounds.

And in a lovely show of camaraderie, Midleton Men’s Shed paid a visit to Mallow Men’s Shed, strengthening ties between groups and sharing ideas ahead of the winter season.

As always, the multicultural community singing group One Town One Voice continues to bring joy and harmony to Thursday evenings. Led by Song Leader Rosie Geraghty, the group welcomes new members from all cultures—no singing background needed, and instruments are very welcome too. It’s a warm, cheerful way to spend a winter’s evening. For more information, contact Eithne at 087 7193257.

Our Laugh & Craft group meets every Tuesday from 7–9pm at the Mercy Centre (P51 PF10). This upbeat get-together is all about unwinding with crafts, conversation, and good humour. No experience is needed—just come along, enjoy the company, and get into a creative flow as the festive season approaches. For details, contact Allison at 087 9008726.

Parents and young children can enjoy the cosy and relaxed Parent & Toddler Group, held on Wednesday mornings from 9.45–11.30am at The Blue Cube, P51 VAK2. It’s a friendly space for play, chats, and connection—ideal for meeting new faces during the winter months while giving little ones the chance to enjoy a safe, social environment. For more information, contact Allison at 087 9008726.

For families raising children on the autism spectrum, Le Chéile offers a dedicated Support Group for Parents of Children on the Spectrum, meeting on Mondays from 9.30–11am at Le Chéile FRC (P51 F344). This group provides a warm, understanding, and supportive place to share experiences and resources—especially valuable as we move through the busy festive season. To join, simply contact Allison at 087 9008726.

Le Chéile continues to be a hive of activity throughout the year, and winter is no exception. Our ongoing Community Health Projects, Social Prescribing, Art Therapy, Family Support, and Counselling services remain at the heart of what we do. We’re proud to offer inclusive programmes to suit people of all ages and backgrounds—from the Men’s Shed and Women’s Shed, to literacy supports for both children and adults, and dedicated outreach for Ukrainian families. Our purpose-built childcare centre also continues to thrive, providing top-quality care and a playful outdoor environment for children aged 6 months to 6 years.

We also offer flexible, affordable room rentals for community groups and events, with beautiful spaces available for gatherings of up to 150 people. For bookings or enquiries, email bookings@lecheilefrc.ie or call 022 42439.

As we wrap up another busy and rewarding year, we look forward to welcoming new and familiar faces over the festive season and into 2025.
Wishing everyone in our community a warm, safe, and joyful Christmas from all of us at Le Chéile.
