Le Chéile Chronicles April 25: What’s Happened and What’s Next

Le Chéile Chronicles

With brighter days returning, life at Le Chéile continues to be busy and full of community spirit as we work alongside and support those around us. This month we were delighted to welcome our new colleague, Leah Murphy, who has joined the Mallow Community Health Project team.

Recently, Le Chéile hosted our very first Women’s Wellness Evening in Le Cheile. An evening focused on Women’s Wellness in Midlife. It was a lovely relaxed evening where women came together to connect and focus on their health and wellbeing. Facilitated by Lisa Culligan – Menopause Wellness Practitioner who kindly gave her time and expertise to the event.

Thanks to the National Forum of FRCs, Le Chéile FRC received funding towards Period Poverty work. This piece of work saw us link with the TY classes of St Mary’s Secondary School to discuss the facts around period poverty, the stigma still attached to it and ways to move forward. What is more, Le Chéile FRC were able to purchase a huge amount of period products and presented these to St Mary’s on the day. We chose to give some run of the mill products that everyone knows and also some organic, environmentally friendly products for the girls to use in the school. We hope to have shared info and sown a seed for change in our future generation.

Our multicultural singing group, One Town One Voice, continues to be a weekly highlight, bringing joy, music, and connection to Thursday evenings. Led by song leader Rosie Geraghty, the group warmly welcomes new members from all backgrounds, no singing experience is required, and instruments are always welcome. For more information, contact Eithne on 087 7193257.

The Laugh & Craft Group meets every Tuesday from 7–9pm in the Mercy Centre (P51 PF10). This friendly and relaxed space is all about creativity, conversation, and good humour. No experience is needed, just come along, unwind, and enjoy making something while having a chat. For details, contact Allison on 087 9008726.

Parents and young children are very welcome at our Parent & Toddler Group, which runs Wednesday mornings from 9.45–11.30am at The Blue Cube (P51 VAK2). It offers a warm and welcoming environment for play, social connection, and support, while little ones enjoy a safe and engaging space. For more information, contact Allison on 087 9008726.

We also facilitate a Support Group for Parents of Children on the Autism Spectrum, which meets Mondays from 9.30–11am at Le Chéile FRC (P51 F344). This is a supportive and understanding space where parents can share experiences, information, and encouragement. To join, contact Allison on 087 9008726.

Across all of our work, our Community Health Projects, Social Prescribing, Art Therapy, Family Support, and Counselling services remain central to what we do. We continue to deliver inclusive programmes for all ages and communities, from Men’s and Women’s Sheds, to literacy supports for both children and adults, as well as dedicated outreach for Ukrainian families. Our purpose-built childcare centre is also thriving, offering high-quality care and a vibrant outdoor play space for children aged 6 months to 6 years.

We also provide affordable and flexible room hire for community groups and events, with welcoming spaces suitable for gatherings of up to 150 people. For bookings or enquiries, please email bookings@lecheilefrc.ie or call 022 42439.
